What Nobody Tells You
Seychelles adapted its visitor permit for remote workers in 2021, but the program remains somewhat informal. It's not as structured as other dedicated digital nomad visas.
The beaches are legitimately world-class. Anse Source d'Argent (La Digue) and Anse Lazio (Praslin) are consistently ranked among the world's most beautiful beaches - granite boulders, white sand, turquoise water.
Internet is the major challenge. While improving, Seychelles' internet infrastructure lags behind. Speeds and reliability vary significantly. Always test before committing to accommodation and have backup (mobile data).
The nomad community is tiny. Unlike Bali, Portugal, or Mexico, Seychelles has almost no digital nomad community. Expect to be one of very few long-term remote workers.
Giant tortoises are real. Aldabra giant tortoises roam freely on some islands. Some are over 150 years old. The Vallée de Mai palm forest on Praslin has unique coco de mer palms.
Seychelles' average monthly salary is around $1,000, so the suggested income requirement ($1,500) is 1.5x local wages. However, tourism inflates costs significantly.
Geographic isolation is real. Seychelles is 1,000+ miles from Africa, 2,000+ from Asia. Flight options are limited and expensive, primarily connecting through Middle East and Europe.
The workcation program is not heavily marketed or formalized. Officials at immigration handle it case-by-case. Bring documentation and be prepared to explain your situation clearly.

Living Costs
The suggested income of $1,500/month is 1.5x the Seychellois average wage, but this is barely sufficient. Seychelles caters to luxury tourism, inflating costs. Budget $2,500-4,000/month for comfortable living - rent alone takes $1,600-2,000/month.
Seychelles is expensive, reflecting its luxury tourism market and extreme geographic isolation. All goods are imported, driving up costs. It's pricier than Mauritius but less than Cayman or Maldives.
